On the other hand, IAG has paid dividends of euro 4.1bn between 20, bought 1bn euro of their own shares in buy-backs and paid an extra dividend of 695m on top of that ( source). On one hand, IAG is in need of repaying quite massive loans that were taken on during Covid (this chart below was shown in their Q3 presentation), and are investing heavily into the fleet (in addition to new planes, retrofitting a fleet like the 77W with Club Suite has a price tag, in my experience, of three quarter of a billion GBP). They just choose not to.I think the reality is a bit more nuanced. Or even employ enough staff on good enough contracts to at least compete on reliability. IAG just announced a massive profit, they could quite easily afford to invest in a premium product that competes with QR.
